What we need from you
Your chassis number, the 17-character VIN, and 1 document depending on your situation. Vehicle from 1996 or newer :
The Swiss registration certificate, grey. One photo is enough: the holder and the vehicle are shown together.
The document from the country of registration: Zulassungsbescheinigung Teil I in Germany, carte grise in France, carta di circolazione in Italy. Photograph all sides that contain data.
The document must contain the chassis number (VIN) and your name: this proves to the manufacturer that the vehicle is yours. Garage invoice, sales contract or order form.
Everything is submitted online when you place your order. Your documents are encrypted upon receipt and stored outside the public website. First order? See the four-step process.
Who issues the Skoda certificate of conformity (COC)
Skoda belongs to the VW Group group, like Audi, Volkswagen, VW Utilitaires, SEAT.
Only the manufacturer can issue this document: no intermediary can produce or correct it. Our role is to prepare the file, handle the process and follow your order through to delivery.
The Skoda certificate of conformity (COC) is generally available for vehicles first registered from 1996 onwards.
On this site, Skoda is listed under "Passenger cars" (EU vehicle category M1). See all brands: Passenger cars.
The most common Skoda models in Switzerland
The certificate of conformity (COC) is ordered vehicle by vehicle, from the chassis number. These are the Skoda models most often registered in Switzerland, from most to least common:
- Skoda Octavia
- Skoda Fabia
- Skoda Karoq
- Skoda Kodiaq
- Skoda Superb
- Skoda Yeti
- Skoda Enyaq
- Skoda Rapid
- Skoda Kamiq
- Skoda Roomster
- Skoda Scala
- Skoda Citigo
Ranking based on vehicles in circulation (SwissCarInfo data). Your model is not listed? The order works the same way: the chassis number is what counts.
Recognising a Skoda chassis number
The first three characters of the chassis number (VIN) identify the manufacturer: this is the WMI code. 5 prefixes are assigned to Skoda in our database:
TM9TMBTMPULEVSO
If your number starts with one of these prefixes, our check recognises the brand automatically. A different prefix does not mean the vehicle is excluded: some models are built by another manufacturer of the group. Check my chassis number.
Frequently asked questions about the Skoda COC
How much does the Skoda certificate of conformity (COC) cost?
The Skoda COC costs CHF 220, a fixed price shown before payment. Delivery is charged separately and depends on the destination.
How long does it take to receive the Skoda COC?
Allow 7 to 15 working days from the complete file. This is the manufacturer's lead time, plus postal delivery.
Which documents are needed to order?
The 17-character chassis number and, depending on your situation: registration certificate, invoice or purchase contract. Everything is uploaded online when ordering.
Is the certificate an original?
Yes. The document is issued by Skoda and we forward the original to you. We produce neither copies nor reconstructions.
Can I order the COC for a Skoda Octavia, Fabia or Karoq?
Yes. The order works the same way for every Skoda model: the manufacturer checks the vehicle from its chassis number. If the manufacturer refuses to issue the certificate, we return its tariff to you if it returns it to us, together with the delivery charges; the handling fee remains due (article 10 of our general terms and conditions).
My Skoda is already registered in Switzerland: can I order its COC?
Yes. The order first asks where the vehicle is registered today, and the Swiss vehicle registration document then serves as the vehicle document. No COC is required to sell the vehicle in Switzerland: it is mainly needed when the vehicle leaves for another country.
My Skoda is older: can I still get its COC?
The Skoda certificate of conformity (COC) generally exists for vehicles first registered from 1996. For ten years after manufacture, the manufacturer must issue a duplicate on request; after that it decides, and the order checks the year.
My Skoda was built for the American market: is there a COC?
As a rule, no: a vehicle without a European specification, for example one intended for the American or Japanese market, has no European COC. It then goes through an in-depth technical examination at the motor vehicle office. If in doubt, write to us with the chassis number before ordering.
